There’s still no solution to give the Christchurch City Council access to the rail corridor for the Northern Line cycleway through Papanui. As reported in this article, the project is hold due to access and design issues with KiwiRail. The Christchurch City Council is proposing a change from 60km/hr to 50km/hr for Cranford Street, and also for the section of Main North Road around the Cranford / QEII Drive area. (The background to this proposal is a recent discovery that there are conflicting gazetted speeds at the Main North/Northcote/QE II Drive intersection, and also some of the adjoining roads are not aligned with NZTA’s safe speed recommendations.)
