Papanui rail crossing upgrades to commence

A period of disruption is coming up as work gets underway to upgrade rail crossings in the Papanui area. The work includes new foundations and track for the rail line at Harewood Rd, and signalised pedestrian crossings for both Harewood Rd and Langdons Rd. Harewood Rd will be fully closed at the rail line in September, and Langdons Rd in October. For more information see today’s Nor’West News (pic), or head to the web page linked below. Council consults on Cranford St options

The Council is consulting on three options for peak-hour lanes on Cranford Street between Innes Road and Berwick Street. These are:

  • a bus lane (similar to the current configuration);
  • a clearway (all vehicles can use a second lane);
  • and a T2 lane (priority to vehicles with two or more people).

All options include other improvements including replacing the ‘short merge’ for northbound traffic after the English Park crossing with a clearway through to Westminster Street.

Information on all the options, a feedback form, and a registration link for a webinar (12:30pm on 7 August) can be found at the link below. For those who like to engage with the detail, there are additional supporting documents available including an in-depth technical assessment with modelling for the proposed options.

The proposals are open for feedback until Monday 26 August, after which the Waipapa Community Board will hear from submitters, consider all feedback and the staff recommendation, and decide on a recommendation to Council for a final decision.
