There’ll be a dog-friendly Christmas celebration at St Paul’s Anglican Church, Papanui on Saturday 7 December. The event starts with a dog walk at 10am, followed by Christmas carol singing and a dog-friendly market in the church hall. See the Facebook event for details.
On Monday 2 December the Council will consider a report on about 50 recommendations from the city’s Housing and Business Choice Plan Change – Plan Change 14.
Recommendations include accepting building heights of 22m (equivalent to 10 stories) in Town Centre Zones including Papanui. A High Density Residential Zone around the Papanui town centre has a recommended building height of 14m.

The annual Celebrate Bishopdale event takes place on Saturday 23 November at Bishopdale Park from 11am to 2pm. This is a family fun day with a wide range of performances, stalls, activities and food.
At the same time, the Bishopdale Skate Jam will be taking place over at the skate bowl.

The Rotary Club of Papanui have their annual trailer raffle underway at Northlands Shopping Centre. Raffle tickets are for sale until 24 November – $5 each or $20 for a book of five. Payment can be made by cash, EFTPOS (not paywave) or bank transfer. All funds raised will be distributed to three charities.
The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board will meet this Thursday 14 November 2024 at 10am in the Papanui boardroom.
The majority of the meeting time is likely to be taken up with consideration of options for Cranford Street between Innes Road and Berwick Street (recommended clearway option pictured). The agenda also includes: proposed laneway names for the performing arts precinct; an application to the Board’s Discretionary Response Fund; and an area report with an overview of initiatives and issues within the Board area.
The meeting is open for the public to attend and will be streamed on the Board’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
Whakaoho Papanui Community Day is on this Sunday 10 November from 1pm-4pm at a new location – the Sissons Drive carpark at Northlands Shopping Centre. The afternoon will have a range of family-friendly activities including crazy bikes, stone carving, photobooth, entertainers, bouncy castles, and more.
On Thursday 10 October, the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board:

received briefings from staff on the Council’s customer service system and from New Zealand Police;
approved parking restrictions on Somme Street, Vagues Road, St Asaph Street, Cornwall Street, and Madras Street;
approved three grants from the Board’s Discretionary Response Fund;
allocated funding towards Community Pride Garden Awards for 2025;
and received an area report with an overview of initiatives and issues within the Board area.
A motion to refer the Board’s delegation as final decision-maker on the option for a peak-hour clearway on Cranford Street (between Innes Road and Berwick Street) to the Council was lost.
The Board will next meet on Thursday 14 November at 10am (note the variation to the usual meeting day & time).
