10 May Community Board meeting outcomes

At the 10 May meeting, the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board: approved no stopping restrictions for part of Willowview Drive; approved the replacement of redundant bus stops on Chapel St & Langdons Rd with time-restricted parking; approved a grant of $8,000 to Northcote School towards the ‘Bikes in Schools’ initiative; and approved four grants from the Board’s Positive Youth Development Fund. The Board will next meet on Friday 24 May at 9am. The full minutes can be found at:

Recap: the week ended 10 May

Think Papanui’s curator Simon Britten rounds up stories from the past week:

In follow-up to last week’s record-breaking story on Kmart’s relocation from The Palms to Papanui, the Nor’West News carried an article this week with some further comment and information.

Last week I mentioned that Council consultation on the Harewood/Gardiners/Breens intersection was coming up. Information on two possible options was published this Monday, along with an online feedback form. This was runner-up for top post of the week on Think Papanui’s Facebook page, with some spirited discussion in the comments. (Top post was this week’s ‘Kmart’ update.)

On Tuesday evening I attended the second meeting of the Redwood Business and Resident’s Group. If you have a business in the area or live locally, I’d encourage you to connect with the group on Facebook, and look out for more news.

On Wednesday morning I called in to the Council chambers to sit in on the first half of the joint Community Board meeting hearing submissions on the draft plan to manage traffic downstream of the Christchurch Northern Corridor. After a near half-hour delay due to a lack of a quorum, the meeting heard from of submitters including Christchurch Central MP Dr Duncan Webb, the St Albans Resident’s Association, and individual residents.

Also on Wednesday the Neighbourhood Trust held their AGM and 20-year celebration, which was a great opportunity to hear some highlights from the year, and connect with staff, volunteers, and supporters.

There was a meeting of the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board this morning. Earlier in the week I published the agenda for the meeting.

Thursday’s Star carried a follow-up story on the Harewood/Gardiners/Breens intersection consultation – it looks like Council are being plenty of feedback to consider, with more than 172 submissions received in the opening days. Public consultation remains open until 10 June.

Community Boards meet to hear submissions on CNC traffic plan

This morning there was a joint Community Board meeting to hear submissions on the draft plan to manage downstream effects of the Christchurch Northern Corridor (CNC). It looks like there’ll be another joint meeting on 22 May to consider submissions and then a recommendation will go to the 13 June meeting of the full Council.

“This morning the Papanui Innes and Linwood Central Heathcote community boards heard from those who wished to talk to their submissions on the Downstream Effects Management Plan, relating to the chch northern corridor.

The Community Boards won’t be commenting on individual submissions at this stage….”
