Low-noise asphalt (and perhaps the 50kph speed restriction) are making a difference to noise from southbound traffic on the CNC motorway today. Compare with the noise from the northbound lanes, where the asphalt hasn’t yet been placed.

New mural and furniture at Papanui Bush
Tonight at Papanui Bush a mural by Papanui High School students was unveiled, and the Rotary Club of Papanui dedicated seats, an outdoor classroom, and a table. Access is via Bridgestone Reserve on Langdons Road – take a look next time you’re in the area, and keep an eye out for future opportunities to assist with planting and maintenance.
Community market in Redwood this Saturday 19 Feb
The first Christchurch Northern community Market will run this Saturday 19 February from 9am to 2pm at the Redwood Hotel, with access off Prestons Road. The market will include: fresh produce; coffee; huge muffins; donuts; unique house & garden items; vege, flowers & house plants; garden boxes & ladders; mobile massage; honey; and arts & crafts. Wheels to Wings Hearings Panel
The Hearings Panel for the Wheels to Wings Papanui ki Waiwhetū Major Cycle Route will meet this Wednesday 16 February from 9am in the Council Chamber. People holding a current vaccine pass may attend the meeting in person, and attendance is also available by an audio-visual link.
Panel members are: Mayor Lianne Dalziel; Councillors Aaron Keown and Mike Davidson, and Community Board members Jason Middlemiss and Emma Norrish.
The Panel will receive a presentation from staff, followed by hearing from submitters. Submissions will also be heard on 4 and 16 March, after which the Panel will consider the submissions and deliberate on the proposal. The Panel is expected to make a recommendation to the Council’s Urban Development and Transport Committee.

Night work to install CNC low noise asphalt
Good news for residents impacted by CNC traffic noise: from this Sunday 13 February, work will be underway to install the low noise asphalt surface on the CNC between QEII Drive and the Pūharakekenui Styx River bridge. This work will be done at night and will involve CNC closures and detours between 8pm to 6am. Around the end of February work will move to the northern end of the CNC, followed by the remaining sections. This work is weather dependant so there may be some delays or date changes. Community Board public forum this Friday 11 Feb
The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will hold a public forum this Friday 11 February at 9:30am. This is a 30 minute session where members of the public can speak directly to the Board on issues and matters of interest. Due to the current Red setting of the COVID-19 Protection Framework the Board will be meeting via audio/visual link. The meeting will be live streamed on the Board’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. Members of the public wishing to speak can contact Council staff to arrange this. Community Market postponed
UPDATE: The first Christchurch Northern community Market of the year has been POSTPONED to Saturday 19 February due to the forecast weather conditions tomorrow.
Nor’West Arc design approved by Council
The Council’s Urban Development and Transport Committee yesterday approved the scheme design for section 3 of Te Ara O-Rakipaoa Nor’west Arc Cycleway, which will connect Papanui through to Canterbury University and beyond. The recommendations of the Hearings Panel (see previous post) were resolved by the committee without any amendments.
