Who’s your local hero? The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board is participating in this year’s Community Service Awards, which are given to individuals and groups in recognition of significant voluntary service. QEII Drive resurfacing from 10 March

There will be staged one-way closures on QEII Drive between Main North Road and the CNC motorway starting 10 March, for the application of low-noise asphalt. Keep an eye out for closures between 8pm and 6am, and note that there may be temporary speed restrictions in place also.

PLAN AHEAD: SH74 QUEEN ELIZABETH II DR – ONE WAY NIGHT CLOSURES STARTING 10 MARCH

SH74 QEII Dr will have staged one-way closures in place for resurfacing works between Christchurch Northern Corridor motorway overbridge (the double roundabout) and Main North Rd.

All one-way closures will be in place between 8 pm and 6 am. Please follow all temporary speed restrictions that may be in place at all times. A posted detour will be in place.

This Friday: Community Board Open Forum

The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will hold a Community Open Forum this Friday 4 March at 9:30am. Under the current provisions of the Covid-19 Protection Framework (the Traffic Alert system) attendance is only possible via an Audio/Visual link or by viewing the live stream on the Board’s YouTube channel or via the Board’s Facebook page. At the Community Open Forum members of the public and community groups can speak directly to the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board on issues, activities and projects relevant to the Papanui and Innes Wards.

Delays with Friday’s kerbside collection

The Council has advised that some green organic bins in Redwood, Northcote, Papanui, Strowan and Bryndwr might not be collected as usual today. Any bins not emptied today will be collected tomorrow Saturday 26 February.

We are experiencing delays in our kerbside collection today. As a result, some organic bins may not be collected in the suburbs of Redwood, Northcote, Papanui, Strowan and Bryndwr.

Bins not emptied today will be collected on Saturday 26 February. Please leave your bin out for collection by 6am on Saturday.

18 February Community Board meeting outcomes

On Friday 18 February, the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board:

    • heard from Kiwi Property / Northlands Shopping Centre about surface flooding at the Langdons/Sissons intersection and increased traffic on Langdons Road;
    • received a deputation on starling issues in Dudley Street;
    • granted a ground lease at MacFarlane Park to the Kindergarten operating there;
    • approved a lighting upgrade at Owen Mitchell Park;
    • approved a road renewal for Dudley Street but laid proposed renewals for two other Richmond streets on the table pending a site visit;
    • approved two pedestrian islands for Langdons Road;
    • and received an area report on issues and initiatives within the Community Board area.

The Board will next meet on 4 March for a briefing and on 18 March for a formal meeting.

Green light for Greers/Langdons traffic signals?

Traffic lights for the Greers/Langdons intersection might get the go ahead if Councillors support their inclusion in the draft Annual Plan for 2022/23. This Thursday 24 February Councillors will meet to consider the city’s budget for the coming year, and it will then likely be open for public consultation from 11 March to 18 April.
