Traffic signals ‘least safe option’ for Bishopdale intersection
A report on improvement options for the Harewood/Gardiners/Breens intersection has been prepared for this Saturday’s meeting of the Waimāero/Fendalton-Waimari-Harewood Community Board. Three options are considered in the report, two of which were included in the recent consultation: (1) a left-in/left-out configuration (with a revision to allow right turns from Harewood onto Gardiners); (2) traffic lights; and also (3) conversion of Harewood Road to a single lane in each direction. The independent safety review has found putting traffic lights at the intersection is likely to increase the chance of a serious or fatal accident occurring. More than a thousand submissions on the proposals were received by Council, with a strong preference for traffic lights. Read more at the following link – you may also wish to attend the meeting, which starts at 9am in the boardroom at the Fendalton Service Centre.

Redwood business & residents meeting
If you’re a Redwood resident, or you’re involved in a business in the area, consider coming to this month’s meeting of the local business & community group, at 7pm on Tuesday 13 August at the Christchurch Function Centre. See this post for details.
Papanui Bush community weeding day: Tue 13 Aug
The next Papanui Bush community weeding day is coming up this Tuesday 13 August, from 8.30am (ish) to 12pm. Hopefully the weather will have improved by then. Feel free to come along and help restore the Papanui Bush. Meet at the picnic table in Bridgestone Park, beside the railway line, on Langdons Road in Papanui.
Main North Rd / Prestons Rd fully open
Following weeks of roadworks and then work to repair a sinkhole, the intersection at Main North Road / Prestons Road in Redwood has now been fully reopened in all directions.
Progress on Main North Rd sinkhole repair
An update on the sinkhole on Main North Rd at Prestons Road: as at 5:30pm this evening, the lane drop southbound on Main North Rd was still in place, but it looks like the repair is pretty much done, and the right turn from Main North Rd onto Prestons has been restored.
Recap: the week ended 9 August
Think Papanui’s curator Simon Britten rounds up stories from the past week:
I posted a video overview of the Council’s consultation document on proposed projects in the Cranford Street area.
I shared some photos from last month’s ‘Dusk to Dawn’ youth event – this is likely to run again mid next year – keep an eye on Papanui Youth Development Trust’s Facebook page or other channels for info.
There are currently night closures on QEII Drive to enable the removal of the wall panels on the CNC overpass abutments.
Local community organisation Te Ora Hou Ōtautahi has commenced a building project on their site between Windermere Road and Condell Avenue.
On Tuesday and Thursday evenings I attended the drop-in information sessions on the Council’s proposed transport projects in the Cranford Street area, downstream of the Christchurch Northern Corridor. The proposals remain open for feedback until the 19th of August.
I posted an overview of the agenda for today’s meeting of the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board.
I also posted an overview of the joint meeting of the Papanui-Innes and Coastal-Burwood Community Boards, also taking place today, 9 August 2019.
I shared an article I wrote on one of the key decisions that’s been made by Council on the management of traffic downstream of the Christchurch Northern Corridor.
A developing sinkhole forced the closure of a southbound lane on Main North Road by Prestons Road. This was Think Papanui’s top post of the week, with a number of people alarmed at the need for further roadworks at this site.
