Traffic signals ‘least safe option’ for Bishopdale intersection

A report on improvement options for the Harewood/Gardiners/Breens intersection has been prepared for this Saturday’s meeting of the Waimāero/Fendalton-Waimari-Harewood Community Board. Three options are considered in the report, two of which were included in the recent consultation: (1) a left-in/left-out configuration (with a revision to allow right turns from Harewood onto Gardiners); (2) traffic lights; and also (3) conversion of Harewood Road to a single lane in each direction. The independent safety review has found putting traffic lights at the intersection is likely to increase the chance of a serious or fatal accident occurring. More than a thousand submissions on the proposals were received by Council, with a strong preference for traffic lights. Read more at the following link – you may also wish to attend the meeting, which starts at 9am in the boardroom at the Fendalton Service Centre.
