People’s Choice making plans for 2019 local body elections
Seven of Christchurch’s 16 current City Councillors are aligned with People’s Choice / Labour. This week’s Star reports that ahead of the October 2019 local body elections, People’s Choice has been surveying residents on potential election issues, and is seeking expressions of interest from potential candidates. Canterbury University’s Associate Professor Bronwyn Hayward offers an alternative perspective on politics at a local level – “Often voters don’t care, if you’re doing a good job, listening … they’re less likely to care about your political standing”. Council to consider draft Annual Plan
The Christchurch City Council is about to consider the Draft Annual Plan for 2019/20. This document outlines Council plans and funding for the year ahead. Controversial $50m rest home rebuild and expansion goes ahead in Christchurch
The Press has an article about the rebuild and expansion of the Oceania Healthcare facility on Windermere Road. Think Papanui has requested images of what’s being built – the design must be complete for a building consent to be issued – but the developer has declined to provide any. What is known is that it will be a “two and three-storey facility with 139 rooms and units including 68 mostly two-bedroom apartments”.

Think Papanui’s Simon Britten was postal customer number 1 at the Papanui Service Centre just after 9am this morning. All regular postal services are available from Council staff at the service desk.
