The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will meet this Friday at 9am in the Papanui boardroom. This meeting is open for the public to attend, and the agenda includes: the Main North Road bus priority project (back on the agenda after the board was unable to reach a decision at their last meeting – the most contentious part appears to be the trade-off between on-street parking vs bus lanes); an application to the Board's Discretionary Response Fund; two applications to the Positive Youth Development Fund; and a funding decision for Neighbourhood Week celebrations. Watch your speed on Cranford Street – the speed limit has dropped from 60km/h to 50km/h on the top part of the road, along with part of Main North Road, and new signage is up now. This change was approved by the Community Board in June following a period of public consultation.

This week's Nor'West News includes a correction to last week's report that the Community Board had made a decision on the proposed Main North Road bus priority project. The proposal will be back on the agenda for the Board's next meeting on 14 September, and at least one Board member appears unlikely to support it as it stands – see John Stringer's 'Soap Box' comments.

At the 24 August meeting (which wasn't completed on the day, but reconvened on 29 August), the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board: heard from four delegations in relation to the proposed Main North Road bus priority project; established a Positive Youth Development Fund for the 2018/19 year; approved Strengthening Communities Fund grants totalling $153,023; approved a $3,000 grant for the Northwest Collective (despite a Council staff recommendation to decline the application); and approved grants to two sports clubs. As previously reported, the report on the Main North Road bus priority project was discussed but laid on the table pending further advice and a workshop with Council staff, and will be discussed again at the next meeting of the Board, which will be at 9am on Friday 14 September.
