An initiative aimed at getting young people active in ways that are fun and specifically designed for them has started in north west Christchurch. Kia Kori Waitaha is a collaboration between 4 sport entities (Canterbury Cricket, Touch Canterbury, Canterbury Hockey and Squash Canterbury) along with local community organisations. 21 May Community Board meeting outcomes
At the 21 May meeting, the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board: heard a report back from a young person supported by the Board’s Positive Youth Development Fund; received an update on progress with the Papanui Bush project; approved new road names for a development in Belfast; received an area report covering initiatives and issues within the Board area, and exchanged information on a range of matters of interest. Demolition underway at future PAK’nSAVE site on Main North Road
Demolition work has commenced on the site of the future PAK’nSAVE supermarket at 171 Main North Road. This project went through a publicly-notified Resource Consent process, with a decision to grant consent made by an independent commissioner in January 2020. The future site of Marian College is in the warehouse area towards the rear of this site.

Found a little brown dog running across blighs rd around waimairi school about half an hour ago, poor thing was going to get itself killed . Have taken it to the vets on papanui rd by St. Andrews school if anyone is looking for it .

There’ll be work underway on Sturrocks Road near Main North Road over the next couple of months, to renew sewer mains and laterals. Take care if you’re in the area and watch out for changed traffic conditions. More details can be found online:

New connection to improve cycle link from Papanui to city
New cycling facilities will be installed in Colombo Street south of Bealey Avenue, following a decision by the Christchurch City Council last week. This will link the Papanui Parallel cycleway through to the central city – “This new cycle link will make it easier and safer for those travelling between the city centre and the north of Christchurch,” said Mike Davidson – Councillor for Papanui, who chaired the Hearings Panel for the project.

Representation Review closes 16 May

The proposal includes changes to the boundaries of Papanui Ward, and the Papanui-Innes area is proposed to be represented by a new Community Board comprising of the Papanui, Innes and Central Wards.
