Top post of the week was last weekend’s news that NZTA funding is now confirmed, and construction of the Main North Road bus priority project is due to commence early in 2020.

I shared an action photo from Monday evening’s ‘meet the candidates’ forum hosted by the St Albans Residents’ Association.

I shared news of a cycle skills session for adults, being held today (Friday 4 October) at Northcote School.

I shared updated information about roadworks on St James Avenue.

Voting papers for our local body elections need to be returned in the post by 5pm this Tuesday 8 October, or can be hand delivered to Council libraries / service centres until noon on Saturday 12 October.

Our Council has received confirmation of NZ Transport Agency funding for the Main North Road bus priority project, which will improve bus travel times and reliability through the Papanui area. Work is expected to commence early in 2020, and mainly involves line markings and road layout changes, some kerb and footpath realignment, along with full signalisation of the Grassmere St / Main North Rd intersection.

I shared some photos from the Plant and Seed Swap that was held at Papanui Library last Saturday.

Top post of the week: Papanui-based community organisation Te Ora Hou Ōtautahi has released some concept images of their site development.

Breakfast burritos were on the menu at a community protest ahead of the Council’s consideration of transport projects downstream of the Christchurch Northern Corridor.

A revised re-opening date of 7 October has been announced for Redwood library, following an extended period of repairs.

The Christchurch Youth Council has surveyed local body election candidates.

The Council has approved the proposed transport projects downstream of the Christchurch Northern Corridor, as recommended by the recent joint Community Board meeting.

Coming up:

• The Positive Ageing Expo runs from 9am to 2:30pm this Monday 30 September.
• The St Albans meet the candidate forum starts at 7pm on Monday 30 September, and will include Papanui Ward candidates for Council and Community Board.
• There will be closures on St James Avenue this coming week, to allow chipseal replacement.

On Tuesday 24 September the full Council considered the report and recommendations for transport projects downstream of the Christchurch Northern Corridor (CNC). The projects are contained in the Council’s Downstream Effects Management Plan (DEMP). The resolutions were passed by the Council as proposed, along with one extra resolution that requested “that the Courtney Street renewal be investigated during the next Draft Long Term Plan”.

The Council is now working on detailed design, with work expected to start in January 2020. There will be further engagement with residents “on a street by street basis where traffic calming has been identified, to develop traffic calming solutions” the Council advises.

There will also be further work with the Council’s strategic partners (NZTA, Environment Canterbury and Waimakariri District Council) on Travel Demand Management. The full minutes of the meeting can be found at:
