The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board will meet at 4pm on Monday 9 March in the Papanui boardroom. The agenda includes:

• public participation;
• a landscape plan for Little Poland Park for approval;
• no stopping restrictions at the Tuam / Mathesons intersection;
• a change from P10 to P30 parking time restrictions outside the Kidsfirst Kindergarten on Rutland Street (pic);
• no stopping restrictions at the Durham Street North / Caledonian intersection;
• and a report with an overview of initiatives and issues current within the Community Board area.

The meeting is open for the public to attend and will be livestreamed on the Board’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

On 2 February 2026, the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board:

• made recommendations that the Council all or part of the former Phillipstown School site (pic);
• approved pedestrian safety improvements at the Edgeware/Springfield/Abberley intersection;
• approved an application to the Board’s Discretionary Response Fund by the Papanui Leagues Club;
• and received an area report on issues and initiatives within the Board area.

The Board will next meet on Monday 9 March 2026.

On 11 December 2025, the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board:

• received a briefing on upcoming water & roading upgrades in the Papanui area, and also a briefing from the Council’s engagement team;
• approved parking changes in Ryan Street;
• approved an updated detailed design for the community facility at 10 Shirley Road;
• approved the final stage redevelopment plan for Lancaster Park;
• approved the community parks rolling renewal programme;
• approved six applications to the Board’s Discretionary Response Fund;
• adopted a meeting and briefing schedule for the 2025-2028 term, and approved other governance arrangements;
• and received a report on issues and initiatives within the Community Board area.

NZ Post has today confirmed that they plan to open a retail hub on Main North Road in mid 2026.

Think Papanui understands the hub will be in the former Kiwibank / NZ Post building at 37 Main North Road, which is currently being renovated. It is unclear at this stage if there’ll be a gap in service between the closure of the outlet at the Papanui library & service centre and the opening of this new hub.

NZ Post stores in Papanui and Redwood will be closed in the coming months as part of changes that will “help to ensure NZ Post’s urban retail network has the right number of stores with the right service offerings in the right locations”, it was announced yesterday.

The two stores are among 142 urban retail partner stores nationwide where NZ Post services will be removed, and are expected to close in May 2026. The closest remaining NZ Post stores to the Papanui area will be the partner stores in Northwood and Bishopdale.

Traffic signals at the Harewood/Gardiners/Breens intersection are now active. If you’re moving through the area keep an eye out for changed conditions. Work in the area will continue into March while pipe replacement work is completed, and some traffic management will remain in place in the meantime.

Te Ora Hou Ōtautahi in Windermere Road is hosting a ‘House of Hoopz’ basketball event this Thursday 29 January for young people aged 13-19 years. The event runs from 12pm to 3pm with free registration and free food/drinks. For more information see the flyer or Te Ora Hou’s Facebook post.

A ‘super week’ of construction is underway at the Harewood/Gardiners/Breens intersection. From the evening of Sunday 4 January until the morning of Monday 12 January 2026, the intersection of Harewood Road, Gardiners Road and Breens Road will be completely closed to traffic.

Work will be underway 24 hours a day through this week, which will significantly reduce the duration of the traffic signal and water upgrades underway.
