Applications for Summer with your Neighbours close at 5pm this Friday 12 August. Council funding is available to support local events that bring people closer together and celebrate the unique and diverse mix of our neighbourhoods. Applications for Summer with your Neighbours 2022-23 opened today. Neighbourhood Week was the brainchild of the Shirley-Papanui Community Board (now known as the Papanui-Innes Community Board), which held the first event in 1998. This popular event has grown from year to year and is promoted by the Christchurch City Council. Three years ago the Council extended the event for the whole summer after feedback from applicants and it is now known as Summer with your Neighbours. Applications will close at 5pm on Friday 12 August 2022. You can find more information and an online application form at http://ccc.govt.nz/GetTogether, and also hard copy forms are available from Council service centres for those who do not have easy access to the internet.
Enrol by this Friday for easiest local body voting
Ensure you are enrolled to vote and your details are up to date by this Friday 12 August in order to receive voting papers in the mail for the local body elections.

The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will hold a Community Open Forum this Friday 5 August at 9am in the Papanui boardroom. This is a session of up to 30 minutes in total where members of the public and community groups can speak directly to the Board on issues, activities, and projects relevant to the Papanui and Innes Wards. New pedestrian crossing to serve Marian College
As a condition of Marian College’s resource consent, a new signalised pedestrian crossing will be constructed on Northcote Road to ensure safe access to the school. Other changes are also proposed for Lydia Street and Northcote Road in that area.

Officially opened: Braintree Wellness Centre
The Braintree Wellness Centre in Papanui was officially opened last night. Braintree is a one-stop shop for people living with the likes of dementia, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s, and includes: a gym for strength, balance and aerobic exercise; classes for brain function; and a café full of healthy treats and advice. The centre is located on Langdons Road next to Papanui Bush.
