Update: due to further weather delays, at this stage the CNC Alliance hopes to have one-way traffic on the Prestons Road Bridge by Tuesday 28 July and two-way traffic restored to Prestons Road by Friday 14 August.
Update: the CNC Alliance was not able to asphalt the Grimseys Road subway on Sunday night due to the weather. This work is now likely to be done on Sunday night 2 August from 10pm till 4am.

The Council’s latest update on transport projects downstream of the Christchurch Northern Corridor (CNC) reminds us that there hasn’t yet been a decision on the use of the extra lane being established on Cranford Street south of Innes Rd. The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will consider this issue in late August/early September. Today’s Nor’West News reports on proposed changes to roading and transport projects in the area, as the Council revises the Annual Plan in light of the COVID-19 crisis. Where funding has been taken out of the coming year’s budget, Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Board chair Emma Norrish says that projects “will still happen, they have only been deferred.” Next door in Harewood Ward, Councillor Keown is advocating for deeper cuts to achieve a zero rates rise, but also for funding to be brought forward to implement lights at the Harewood/Gardiners/Breens intersection. Safety improvements at the Wairakei/Grahams Road intersection have been approved by the Waimāero/Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board, following consultation earlier this year. Feedback on the proposed design was ‘generally supportive’ with a number of suggestions and concerns also fed back to Council, and some changes made to the design as a result. The board has requested that staff review the operation of the intersection in six months’ time “as to whether right turn arrows or any other safety enhancements would further improve the safety and efficiency” of the intersection. The cycle lanes that are included in the design require the approval of the full Council, and are on the agenda of tomorrow’s Council meeting.
