Grimseys Rd subway closed tonight

The Grimseys Road cycle/pedestrian subway will be closed tonight from 10pm through to 4am. Contractors will be asphalting the floor of the subway, and there will be ‘absolutely no access’. The asphalt crew will undertake similar work on the Winters Road subway in two weeks’ time.

Community Board to consider Cranford St lane

The Council’s latest update on transport projects downstream of the Christchurch Northern Corridor (CNC) reminds us that there hasn’t yet been a decision on the use of the extra lane being established on Cranford Street south of Innes Rd. The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will consider this issue in late August/early September. Nor’West News: changes to Council roading projects

Today’s Nor’West News reports on proposed changes to roading and transport projects in the area, as the Council revises the Annual Plan in light of the COVID-19 crisis. Where funding has been taken out of the coming year’s budget, Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Board chair Emma Norrish says that projects “will still happen, they have only been deferred.” Next door in Harewood Ward, Councillor Keown is advocating for deeper cuts to achieve a zero rates rise, but also for funding to be brought forward to implement lights at the Harewood/Gardiners/Breens intersection. Wairakei/Grahams safety improvements approved

Safety improvements at the Wairakei/Grahams Road intersection have been approved by the Waimāero/Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board, following consultation earlier this year. Feedback on the proposed design was ‘generally supportive’ with a number of suggestions and concerns also fed back to Council, and some changes made to the design as a result. The board has requested that staff review the operation of the intersection in six months’ time “as to whether right turn arrows or any other safety enhancements would further improve the safety and efficiency” of the intersection. The cycle lanes that are included in the design require the approval of the full Council, and are on the agenda of tomorrow’s Council meeting.
