Boards defer decision on downstream traffic projects

No decision yet on transport projects downstream of the Christchurch Northern Corridor? Star News reports that today’s joint Community Board meeting did not reach a decision on recommended projects in the Cranford Street area. Think Papanui was unable to stay for the whole of the meeting today – maybe some who were there at the end could elaborate on how the meeting concluded and the likely next steps?

Recap: the week ended 6 September

Think Papanui’s curator Simon Britten rounds up stories from the past week:

Parenting Week starts this coming Monday 9 September. Tickets are available for a range of events, all with the objective of supporting families.

The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board’s September newsletter is available now.

Candidate profile statements for Papanui Ward local election candidates are available on the Council’s website (and also the Celect app).

Zion Studios is holding a fundraising concert this Saturday 7 September.

Top post of the week was news that a staff member has retired from Mitre 10 in Papanui after 37 years working across a number of Mitre 10 stores.

Coming up:

  • This Monday 9 September there’ll be a joint Community Board meeting to consider feedback and a staff recommendation on the Council’s proposed transport projects in the Cranford St area.
  • A ‘peaceful protest’ is planned for Monday morning, coinciding with the joint Board meeting.
  • On Thursday 12 September the Council will consider the recommendation for traffic lights at the Harewood/Gardiners/Breens intersection. This will be an interesting one to watch given that the Community Board’s recommendation for lights was made after receiving a staff report recommending against them for safety reasons.
  • On Tuesday 17 September there’ll be a ‘meet the Papanui Ward candidates’ evening hosted by the Redwood Business and Residents’ Group.

Feedback is always welcome on Think Papanui’s content, either on Facebook or Instagram, or directly to me.
With warm regards
Simon

‘Peaceful protest’ planned for Monday meeting

More than 50 changes have been made to the package of proposed transport projects in the Cranford Street area, downstream of the Christchurch Northern Corridor, however the St Albans Residents Association is pressing for a greater focus on car reduction. A 'peaceful protest' is planned for Monday morning, coinciding with the joint Community Board meeting to consider submissions and a staff recommendation that the Boards support the revised plan. Community Boards to consider proposed transport projects

On Monday 9 September there’ll be a joint meeting of the Papanui-Innes and Linwood-Central-Heathcote Community Boards. The meeting is due to start at 9:30am in the Council Chambers, and the Boards will hear from around 50 submitters who wish to speak to their submissions on the Council’s proposed transport projects in the Cranford St area (downstream of the Christchurch Northern Corridor). The meeting will also consider a staff report and a recommendation that the Boards recommend that Council approves a scheme design that has been modified based on the public feedback. The meeting is open for the public to attend. To read more about changes made to the design, and for a link through to the staff report, see:
