Congratulations to award winners and all who entered the Edible Garden Awards

[ad_1]
Congratulations to award winners and all who entered the Edible Garden Awards:

We had a great time tonight at the 2017 Papanui-Innes Edible Garden Awards at the Canterbury Horticultural Society. Despite our ward boundaries being smaller this year, entries were up, and it was especially encouraging to see some new schools coming on board.

All 48 entrants were awarded with a certificate, with special awards for First Timer, Best Tomatoes, Best Yield, and Most Sustainable Garden. Special mention to St Albans Uniting Church Christchurch for taking out the Best Community Garden award (again) and Shirley Boys’ High School for winning the schools/preschools category

Well done to everyone involved tonight – our Board is proud to be able to recognise your efforts.

[ad_1]
Edit 9pm 6 April: See the link in the comments for an update – “A man who protested construction of a cycleway by standing out in the rain with his placard, appears to have won the battle.” Thanks Mike Davidson City Councillor – Papanui for sharing.

The Grassmere Street section of the under-construction Papanui Parallel cycleway is in the news today: “Roading contractors have been forced to down tools as residents angry at Christchurch’s new road and cycleway design have taken their protest to the street.”

See the Facebook event or the Youth Voice Canterbury Facebook page & website for more information. We are hosting an open workshop on the Christchurch Youth Action Plan! Open to all under the age of 25 who want to have a say on the Action Plan.

It is important for us to consult a wide range of people from Christchurch so the plan best represents you. Come share your views and experiences living as a young person in Christchurch.
What impacts you? How could it be resolved?

We will be there from 2:30 pm to meet with you and brainstorm the issues that impact your life. We want your feedback on the current Youth Action Plan and to hear what you feel is missing or has been left unanswered.

Feel free to come along any time that suits you – we want you to have your say!

We will provide food while you provide the ideas and feedback on how Christchurch can improve for youth. If you’ve got any dietary requirements and are intending to come along, please give us a heads up so we can cater for you 🙂

[ad_1]
Edit 12:30pm Fri 7 April: The Greater Christchurch Urban Development Strategy Implementation Committee today voted to support the adding of a third south-bound lane on Christchurch’s Northern Motorway across the Waimakariri Bridge. See the new post on Think Papanui for a link with more details.

Do you know that this Friday 7 April a joint committee of Christchurch City and other local councils will be asked to support the construction of a third southbound lane across the Waimakariri Bridge? See item five in the agenda in the link below for more details. Matt Doocey (Member of Parliament for Waimakariri) is expected to speak to the meeting in support of this change, and Ali Jones (Chair – Papanui-Innes Community Board) in opposition to it. If supported by this committee and the NZTA board, the proposal will require a variation to the Regional Land Transport Plan and alteration to the designation under the RMA, and this will include public consultation. The committee meeting is scheduled for 9am on Friday at Environment Canterbury, 200 Tuam Street. (Photo credit: NZ National Party)

The rural land in Cranford St that is being eyed for housing.
Some rural land in Cranford St is being considered for re-zoning.

Christchurch City Council is seeking public comments on its draft Cranford Regeneration Plan, which focuses on the regeneration of about 125 hectares of land on the western side of the upper end of Cranford St.

A large part of that area is made up of the Cranford Basin – a major natural ponding and stormwater management area that is critical to reducing the flood risk.

Over the next decade there are plans to transform Cranford Basin into a multi-purpose forested wetland with walking and cycle paths.
