The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will hold a Community Open Forum this Friday 6 May at 9am. This is a session of up to 30 minutes in total where members of the public and community groups can speak directly to the Community Board on issues, activities and projects relevant to the Papanui and Innes Wards. The forum will be live streamed on the Board’s YouTube channel and also available via the Board’s Facebook page. Changes to kerbside collection days over Easter, Anzac Day

Next Saturday 30 April from 12pm there’ll be a Skate Jam to celebrate the completion of the St Albans Skate Park redevelopment. Cheapskates Skate Skool will be hosting the Skate Jam with free skate hire, instruction and competitions.

The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will meet at 9:30am on Friday 29 April. The agenda includes: public participation; proposed safety improvements for the intersection of Marshland and Turners Roads; names for two roads in the Oakbridge development off Prestons Road; and an area report on issues and initiatives in the Community Board area. Members of the public can attend the meeting via audio/visual link, and the meeting will also be livestreamed on the Board’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Most Anzac Day events have been cancelled this year, however the Papanui RSA will hold a wreath-laying ceremony for veterans and families (see Facebook page for details) and the public is encouraged to pay respects including by leaving floral tributes at local memorials. An Anzac Day Citizens Service in the Transitional Cathedral will be live-streamed for the public at 10am on Monday.

Today’s Nor’West News reports that further design changes may be made to the Wheels to Wings Papanui ki Waiwhetū Major Cycle Route, including around the Mitre 10 driveway and also routing the cycleway on the park side of the trees on the northern side of Nunweek Park – a move that would allow an increase in car parking in the area. The Hearings Panel’s recommendations will be considered by the Council next month and a final decision is expected at that time.

Apartment buildings and multi-storey flats of up to 20 metres (six stories) will be enabled in Papanui’s High Density Residential Zone under proposed changes to the City’s District Plan. Changes are being made to bring the District Plan in line with Government directives, including the National Policy Statement-Urban Development (NPS-UD). Pre-notification consultation on the extent of some of the Plan changes is open until 13 May.
