The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board will hold an inaugural meeting at 9am on Friday 28 October in the Papanui boardroom. Board members will be sworn in, a chairperson and deputy chairperson will be elected, statutory requirements will be explained, and a date will be set for the Board’s first ordinary meeting. The meeting is open for the public to attend, and will be livestreamed on the Board’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. Click through for the full agenda:

There is still space available at the Halloween Community Kids Event hosted by Ray White Papanui and Rotary Club of Papanui. This is a free event but registration is required to manage numbers.

This year the witches have taken over and to receive your goodie bag you’ll need to find all the magic potion ingredients around the park, frogs legs, ravens feathers and mermaid hair included! The Council is planning to reduce speeds from 50km/h to 30km/h around Christchurch schools and to 40km/h in neighbourhood streets, starting with the areas shown on the interactive map at the link below. This is part of New Zealand’s Road to Zero Strategy, which has a goal to have safe speed limits around all schools by the end of 2027. “Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has changed the way speed limits are set which encourages us to implement an area-wide approach for consistency, especially around schools, using permanent 30km/h speed limits,” says the Council. On busier roads such as Papanui Road the Council proposes to use variable 30km/h speed limits that will operate during school start and finish times only.

Breaking: Papanui ward has a new Councillor. Victoria Henstock has been elected with 4735 votes. Ms Henstock was a lawyer for more than 20 years before moving into executive leadership roles. She takes the seat from sitting Councillor Mike Davidson, who received 2562 votes. Progress results show Phil Mauger has won Christchurch’s mayoralty race. Click through for more details:
