Strengthening Communities Fund open for applications

Community organisations have until 12 April 2024 to apply to the Council for support through the Strengthening Communities Fund. This fund supports community-focused organisations whose projects contribute to the strengthening of community wellbeing in the Christchurch city area.

Applications can be for operating costs such as salaries, power, rent, and administration, and/or for project costs such as community programmes, events, activities and equipment.

14 March Community Board meeting agenda

The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board will meet at 4pm on Thursday 14 March in the Papanui boardroom.

The agenda includes:

  • approval of tree planting plans for Marble Wood Reserve (pic) and Cambridge Green;
  • two grants from the Board’s Better-Off Fund totalling $101,000;
  • an application to the Board’s Youth Development Fund;
  • an application to the Board’s Discretionary Response Fund;
  • and an area report on issues and initiatives within the Board area.

The meeting is open to the public and will be livestreamed on the Board’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Barnes Road closed from Monday 4 March

Following on from this week’s closures of Sturrocks and Tuckers Roads, from Monday 4 March there’ll be a closure on Barnes Road at the railway line to allow connection of the cycleway from Barnes Reserve through to the new section heading to Main North Road. Take care if you’re in the area and watch for changed traffic conditions.

15 February Community Board meeting outcomes

On Thursday 15 February, the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board:

  • heard from Te Kura o Matarangi Northcote School about traffic & parking issues in the area;
  • received deputations relating to the proposed changes to the Shirley/Hills/Warrington intersection;
  • approved changes to that intersection;
  • approved changes to parking on Peterborough Street;
  • approved the draft South-East Neighbourhood Plan for public consultation;
  • approved three grants from the Board’s Discretionary Response Fund;
  • approved over $200,000 in grants from the Board’s Better-Off Fund;
  • and received an area report on issues and initiatives within the Board area.

The Board will next meet on Thursday 14 March.

Rail crossing upgrades for Tuckers & Sturrocks Roads

From Sunday 25 February through to Sunday 3 March, there’ll be daily road closures on either side of the Sturrocks Road and Tuckers Road railway crossings to allow the railway level crossings to be upgraded. Detours will be signposted. Take care if you’re in the area, and watch for changed traffic conditions.
