On 14 August 2025, the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Centr

On 14 August 2025, the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board:
💬 received two public forum presentations and three deputations from members of the public;
💰 approved twenty-one Strengthening Communities grants totalling $140,250;
☀ approved allocation of $16,500 to board projects including the Youth Development Fund and Summer with your neighbours 2025-26;
🎠 approved the concept design for the renewal of the Momorangi Reserve play space, asking staff to include a second accessible entrance and requesting advice on shading options;
🚸 approved active transport improvements for Ferry Road between Mathesons Road and Ryan Street, including four pedestrian refuge crossing points;
🚌 approved bus stop upgrades (including installation of a shelter) on Riccarton Avenue;
🚗 approved No Stopping restrictions for Browns Road near Innes Road;
🪓🌳 approved the removal of one tree to accommodate the Flockton Street Wastewater Upgrade; and
🧾 received an Area Report on current issues and initiatives within the Board area.
The Board will next meet on Thursday 11 September 2025.

🚧Major works at Cranford St / Main North Rd fro

🚧Major works at Cranford St / Main North Rd from 25 August🚧 There will be no right turn from Cranford Street into Main North Road during traffic signal recabling works from Monday 25 August 2025. A pedestrian crossing will also be closed at the intersection, and there'll be lane drops and changes throughout the works, which are expected to be completed in early October. This work will impact traffic flows in the area - Think Papanui anticipates impacts at the QEII / Northcote / Main North intersection due to traffic detouring via QEII Drive. Take care if you're in the area and be prepared for changed conditions.

The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board

The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board will meet on Thursday 13 August at 4pm in the Papanui boardroom. The agenda includes: public participation; a concept plan for renewal of the Momorangi Reserve play space (pic); proposed active transport improvements for Ferry Road between Mathesons Road and Ryan Street, including four pedestrian refuge crossing points; bus stop upgrades (including installation of a shelter) on Riccarton Avenue; proposed No Stopping restrictions for Browns Road near Innes Road; proposed removal of three trees at the intersection of Harrison Street and Flockton Street to enable the renewal of a wastewater line; twenty-one Strengthening Communities grants totalling $140,250; allocation of $16,500 to board projects including the Youth Development Fund and Summer with your neighbours 2025-26; and an area report with an overview of initiatives and issues within the Board area. The meeting is open for the public to attend and will be livestreamed on the Board's YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Final nominations have been announced for Christch

Final nominations have been announced for Christchurch City Council and Environment Canterbury Regional Council. Candidates nominated to represent Papanui Ward as City Councillors are Simon Britten and incumbent Victoria Henstock. Papanui candidates for Community Board are incumbent Simon Britten, and Ashleigh Feary & Harrison McEvoy. Papanui is now part of ECan's Christchurch Central / Ōhoko Constituency. Candidates are: Benjamin Alexander; Ross Boswell; Lindon Boyce; Alexandra Davids; Nettles Lamont; Genevieve Robinson (incumbent); and Alan Wang. Local government elections are conducted by postal vote. For the 2025 local elections, voting documents will be delivered between 9 September and 22 September 2025, and voting closes at noon on 11 October.

On Thursday 10 July, the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board: received three public forum presentations from members of the public; approved a change of design to the Richmond Neighbourhood Greenway Cycleway outside 45 Averill Street; approved a P5 parking restriction on Cranford Street near Westminster Street; approved a P3 parking restriction and no stopping lines on Wairakei Road adjacent to Wairakei School; approved a P5 Loading Zone on Caledonian Road outside Southern Cross Hospital; and received an area report on issues and initiatives within the Board area. The Board will next meet on 14 August.

Waitomo Papanui on Cranford Street is set to open on Tuesday 22 July 2025. The commissioning of the signalised pedestrian cro

The commissioning of the signalised pedestrian crossings at Harewood, Langdons, and Sawyers Arms Roads has been completed. The crossings are all now operational, as are railway automatic gates at Harewood and Langdons Roads. Take care if you're in the area as the activation of the crossings may affect traffic conditions. The project is forecast to cost $12.6m in total, over a million dollars under budget.

From Tuesday 22 July, Grassmere Street between Gra

From Tuesday 22 July, Grassmere Street between Grants Road and 46 Grassmere will be closed for watermain renewal work. Residential access to properties will be maintained, as will pedestrian and cyclist access, although cyclists will be asked to dismount. The Papanui Parallel shared path between Grassmere & Rutland Streets remains closed at this stage.
