2019 elections: Papanui Ward candidates

2019 is an election year for local authorities, with elections for Christchurch City Council and Community Boards, as well as Environment Canterbury and the Canterbury District Health Board. The election day is 12 October 2019, but postal voting will be open for several weeks before this.

Papanui Ward has two Community Board members and one Councillor. Details of current elected members can be found on the City Council website. So, who will be standing for election in 2019? A full list of candidates won’t be known until late August, after nominations close.

To date, it has been confirmed that:

  • Councillor Mike Davidson will be standing for re-election (The Press, 28 Jan 2019)
  • Community Board Deputy Chair Emma Norrish has advised Think Papanui that she intends to stand again: “There are major things happening in the Papanui-Innes area at the moment which require consistency and knowledge in decision-making … I love being able to make this a better place to live.
  • Board member John Stringer will be a candidate for Councillor (The Star, 28 Feb 2019)
  • Think Papanui founder and curator Simon Britten will be a candidate – yet to be confirmed whether this is for Community Board and/or Council (Nor’West News, 12 Mar 2019)

Think Papanui will provide ongoing coverage of the local elections through 2019.
