The alliance building the Christchurch Northern Corridor (CNC) has announced that the motorway is expected to open 'just before Christmas'. The original target was mid 2020, but this has been pushed back due to longer than anticipated ground settlement times and extra work associated with the third southbound lane over the Waimakariri River. Work on local roads and the upgrade of QEII Drive remain on track for mid-year completion. Click through for details:

The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board is scheduled to meet this Friday 20 March at 9:15am in the Papanui boardroom. The agenda includes: a proposed bus shelter for Shirley Road at Petrie Street; three applications to the Board's Youth Development Fund; and an area report covering initiatives and issues current within the Community Board area. This is a nice touch from Mitre 10 MEGA Papanui – a new fence that improves sight-lines at the Langdons Rd / Chapel St corner, and that matches the old ‘Sanitarium’ fence along the Harewood Road frontage.

From Sunday night 15 March the left out lane from Philpotts Road onto QEII Drive will be closed to all traffic. The intersection will reopen on 26 March (left out only), and then the final left-in and left-out layout will be in place from early May 2020. Click through for more information:

Caltex/Genesis gas update: Northcote Motor Lodge owners Donna & Gary Brensell spoke at Thursday's Christchurch City Council meeting about the Resource Consent process underway in relation to the LPG distribution depot on Main North Road in Redwood. "Surely your town planners would think that this operation belongs in a commercial zone, away from residents?" The Brensells understand the operator is seeking to recommence operations under existing use rights, and they have requested an urgent meeting with the Council's Chief Executive. The 6 March meeting of the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board was brief. The Board heard from four members of the public in the Public Forum, including two young people supported by the Board's Positive Youth Development Fund, an update on Neighbourhood Support, and a proposal from a resident seeking a water fountain in the Styx Esplanade reserve and improved sun protection at playgrounds.
