Level 1 water restrictions have been introduced ac Level 1 water restrictions have been introduced across Christchurch from today, 14 January. The use of hoses, sprinklers and garden irrigation systems is permitted only on alternate days - even-numbered addresses on even dates, and odd-numbered addresses on odd dates. No water can be used outdoors between 3pm and 9pm.
Council Q&A:
Q: Is the Council conserving water on its sports fields, parks and Botanic Gardens?
A: "We’re doing our best to lead by example. We’re trying to conserve water by only watering parks and sports fields early morning and late evening, when it’s cooler. However, some of our fields have a sand base, which must be watered during the day to prevent the turf from dying. If the turf died, it would be very expensive to replace. The Botanic Gardens has its own private well so doesn’t draw water from the public water supply, but it’s still doing what it can to lead by example and save water."
Q: What about water bottlers/rural irrigators?
A: "Water-bottling plants/rural irrigators don’t use the Council’s water supply network (they have their own water sources), so they don’t affect the public supply."

Casebrook chlorine update: water "younger than one Casebrook chlorine update: water "younger than one year old" is present in one of the Grampian wells - younger water may be a risk to public health due to the potential presence of bacteria and viruses. It is not possible in the short term to isolate the well, so the Council is restarting temporary chlorination as a precautionary measure. The Council will repeat the age dating analysis and explore options for the pump station. More information on water chlorination, including Council contact details, can be found via the link in the bio.

Water chlorination in Casebrook: the Christchurch Water chlorination in Casebrook: the Christchurch City Council has just advised the following:
"We’ll soon be adding chlorine to our Grampian Street water supply pump station in Casebrook.
This is a precaution while we carry out age-testing of the groundwater from one of our water wells.
If you live in or around Casebrook, you may be able to taste or smell chlorine in your drinking water. This is normal and safe.
We expect to finish the testing by end of June 2021, at which time we’ll also remove the chlorine.
Thank you for your patience while we carry out this important work in your area.
