Great news for nature lovers! At last week’s meeting, the Papanui-Innes Community Board approved the first stage of planting in the project to restore Papanui Bush at Bridgestone Reserve. Initial funding for this project is available from the Council’s stormwater budget, enabling around 1,520 native trees to be planted at the north and south ends of the reserve. Several schools and the Papanui Rotary Club have also confirmed their intention to contribute. While the photo below shows the portion of the reserve visible from Langdons Road, please note that it continues for several hundred metres beside the railway line behind the former Firestone/Bridgestone industrial site.
