6 December: North-West Pool Party

Next Friday 6 December there’s a “school’s out” pool party at Jellie Park for young people in the north west of Christchurch. The event is for people in school years 7 to 13, starts at 6pm, and features live bands, competitions, and more. Click through for details:

Momorangi Reserve is due for a refresh, with a pla Momorangi Reserve is due for a refresh, with a plan to remove the existing slide, swing, and seesaws and install modern play equipment. The concept plan includes: a 2-bay swing set; a climber; a see-saw; a spinner; nature play with logs and stumps, and an accessible picnic table. The shared path linking Grassmere and Rutland Stre The shared path linking Grassmere and Rutland Streets is set to be closed through most of July for construction of the Grassmere to Mays Water Supply Link. The path is part of the Papanui Parallel major cycle route, and both cyclists and pedestrians will be required to detour while work is underway, which will also impact the link through Rutland Reserve to Cranford Street. The work is part of a package of enabling infrastructure projects supported by Infrastructure Acceleration Funding to enable housing development in the East Papanui / Cranford Basin area. $30.9 million in infrastructure funding for Papanui was announced in 2022.

The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board will next meet at 4pm on Thursday 12 June in the Papanui boardroom.
The agenda includes: a notice of motion relating to Courtenay Street traffic volumes and condition; a proposed lease of Sutton House; a tree planting plan for Petrie Park (pic); play space renewal for Cross Reserve; a funding application from Mairehau Library, a proposed amendment to the Board’s standing orders; and an Area Report on issues and initiatives within the Board area.
The meeting is open for the public to attend, and will be livestreamed on the Board’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Applications are open until 30 May for the Council Applications are open until 30 May for the Council's Strengthening Communities Fund. This fund supports community-focused organisations whose projects contribute to the strengthening of community wellbeing in the Christchurch City and Banks Peninsula area. Local applications will come to the relevant Community Board for a decision, while citywide projects are referred to the Council. Details of $568,245 in Community Board grants in 2023/24 in the Papanui-Innes-Central area are shown in the attached images to give a sense of the size and nature of grants. On 15 May, the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Commu On 15 May, the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board: received three public forum presentations from members of the public; recommended the reclassification of part of Dunedin Reserve; approved the removal of car parks within the Langdons Road / Chapel Street intersection; approved road and lane names for the development at 140 Prestons Road (pic); and received an area report on issues and initiatives within the Board area. The Board will next meet on 12 June.

The Local Government Commission has upheld ECan's The Local Government Commission has upheld ECan's final proposal for representation arrangements for the 2025 local election onwards. This means that Papanui Ward moves into ECan's Christchurch Central/Ōhoko constituency from the North-East/Ōrei constituency. Residents in Papanui Ward will find themselves voting for Regional Councillors who will represent an area comprised of Papanui, Fendalton, Riccarton, and Central Wards. This will also perhaps impact which constituency aspiring Regional Councillors living in Papanui choose to stand in.
