Council consults on Cranford St options

The Council is consulting on three options for peak-hour lanes on Cranford Street between Innes Road and Berwick Street. These are:

  • a bus lane (similar to the current configuration);
  • a clearway (all vehicles can use a second lane);
  • and a T2 lane (priority to vehicles with two or more people).

All options include other improvements including replacing the ‘short merge’ for northbound traffic after the English Park crossing with a clearway through to Westminster Street.

Information on all the options, a feedback form, and a registration link for a webinar (12:30pm on 7 August) can be found at the link below. For those who like to engage with the detail, there are additional supporting documents available including an in-depth technical assessment with modelling for the proposed options.

The proposals are open for feedback until Monday 26 August, after which the Waipapa Community Board will hear from submitters, consider all feedback and the staff recommendation, and decide on a recommendation to Council for a final decision.

Applications open for Summer with your Neighbours funding

Have you ever wanted to organise a neighbourhood gathering? Do you want to get to know the people who live close to you? Perhaps you’ve always wanted to put on a potluck for the whole street? “Summer with your neighbours” started as Neighbourhood Week in 1998, an initiative of the then Shirley-Papanui Community Board. Applications are now open for funding towards local community gatherings.

Night investigation works for Papanui crossing upgrades

Crossing upgrades beside the railway line are planned at Harewood Road, Langdons Road and Sawyers Arms Road to ensure the safety of people crossing the road, as well as both cyclists & pedestrians using the Northern Line Cycleway through this busy area. Designs, including signalised crossing points, have been on the table for some years now, and it looks like work is about to get underway. If you’re in the area, keep an eye out for investigation night works between 6pm & 6am on the following dates:
Harewood Road: 21-23 July
Langdons Road: 24-25 July & 28 July
Sawyers Arms Road: 29-31 July
There are likely to be lane reductions and traffic delays during this work, and the Harewood Rd works will include a road closure on Restell Street. Construction work for all three crossings is expected in September/October 2024, with final commissioning in early 2025.
