The submissions committee of the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will meet on Wednesday 17 February at 10:15am in the Papanui boardroom. The committee will consider making submissions on behalf of the Board on: the Wheels to Wings Major Cycleway Project; the Draft Christchurch Central City Parking Policy; Managing Noise from the Canterbury Multi-Use Arena; and on the proposed amendments to the Christchurch District Plan policies and rules regarding significant indigenous vegetation in the coastal environment. The meeting is open for the public to attend.

Council resolves to continue cycleway consultation

Consultation update: today’s Council meeting decided that the current consultation on the proposed Wheels to Wings cycleway will continue, with an additional information session to be held in Bishopdale. Staff will subsequently meet with key stakeholders along Harewood Road and produce options for the relevant Community Boards to consider in public workshops, prior to the commencement of the hearings process.

29 Jan Board meeting outcomes

At the 29 January meeting, the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board:

    • received a petition regarding planned residential developments in Mersey and Westminster Streets, referred the petition to the Council’s Regulatory and Performance Committee and requested a briefing on the resource consent process;
    • was briefed on Orion’s 66kV cable project, to link Belfast and Prestons, and on the Cranford Street bus priority lane trial;
    • approved community engagement over the proposed renaming of two reserves;
    • agreed changes to the youth development fund process;
    • approved an application to the Board’s Discretionary Response Fund;
    • set a date for the Board’s Submissions Committee to meet (17 February); and
    • received an area report on initiatives and issues within the Community Board area.

Enforcement activity starts on Main North Road bus lanes

Main North Road bus lane update: cars caught driving in the Main North Rd bus lanes during their hours of operation could find themselves being ticketed from Monday 1 March. “The only time that motorists should be in a bus lane, during the hours they are in operation, is if they are making a turn. Cycleway consultation extended by two weeks

The consultation period on the Harewood Rd Wheels to Wings cycleway has been extended for two weeks, and now closes on Monday 8 March. There’s a public drop-in information session tomorrow (Tuesday 9 February) at Ōrauwhata: Bishopdale Community Centre, and another the following Tuesday 16 February at the Papanui RSA.
