The Bishopdale skate park is one of the largest in Christchurch, but is nearing the end of its lifespan. The Christchurch City Council is proposing a revamp, with feedback due by Monday 9 December. There’ll be an opportunity to talk to Council staff about the plans at Celebrate Bishopdale and the Bishopdale Skate Jam (both happening on Sunday 24 November). At the inaugural meeting on 8 November, the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board: were sworn in; elected a Chair and Deputy Chair (Emma Norrish and Simon Britten respectively); received reports on the election, statutory requirements, and the appointment of Councillors to the Board; and set dates for the boards initial ordinary meetings. To celebrate Think Papanui’s third birthday, during the week I ran a draw for an autographed copy of Nadia Lim’s latest book. (Please note that the promotion has now closed and a winner has been drawn.)

Whakaoho – Papanui Community Day 2019 took place on Sunday afternoon. I shared a live video from the event.

The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will have held and inaugural meeting by the time this recap is published.

Top post of the week was news that the 30km/h speed zone for some Papanui streets has now been implemented.

A memorial seat and plaque in Marblewood Drive mark the site of the former South Island Methodist Orphanage and Children’s Home.

Emma Norrish and Simon Britten have been elected as chair and deputy chair respectively at this morning’s inaugural Community Board meeting.

Coming up:

• There will be community weeding days at Papanui Bush this Saturday 9 November and again on Tuesday 12 November.
• A free ‘gardening for beginners’ course starts on 21 November at Northcote Primary School.

This Saturday 9 November from 10am to 11:30am there will be an opportunity to assist with weeding and removing rubbish at Papanui Bush – and if you are able to bring a pair of waders, a small group is needed to wade into the drainage pond area to retrieve rubbish. For more information see ‘community volunteer days’ at the link below. (There’s also the regular monthly weeding day coming up this Tuesday 12 November from 8:30am to 12:30pm.)

The signs are up for the revised 30km/h speed limit for Sisson Drive, Langdons Road, Restell Street and Winston Avenue. As of this morning the markings on the road surface were yet to be updated but this should be done soon.
