7 August Board meeting outcomes

 

At the 7 August meeting, the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board:

    • heard from a member of the public in relation to traffic issues on Langdons Rd, and from another on the state of the palm tree planter box on Palm Drive;
    • approved a like-for-like renewal of the Palm Drive planter box and requested Council ‘urgently seek funding this financial year’;
    • received a roading network safety analysis in relation to the Northlands Mall area, and requested a full assessment of the network affected by the Northlink retail park development; and
    • received an area report on initiatives and issues current within the Community Board area.

Alert Level 2 updates

Brief updates on Alert Level 2:
Public transport: Metro Canterbury advise that all services will operate on Wednesday 12 August, with capacity restrictions introduced from Thursday 13 August (source: Metro Canterbury Facebook).
Council: the Christchurch City Council advises that public facilities will remain open under Level 2 with some changes to manage numbers (see the Newsline article).
Shopping: Northlands Shopping Centre is open (see previous Think Papanui post).

Local shops continue to operate at Alert Level 2

Shops, schools, and businesses will continue to operate in Christchurch as we move to Alert Level 2 (talk to your employer if you have questions about your own situation). The NZ Government’s advice on masks at Alert Level 2 is “you should wear masks in situations where physical distancing is not possible, like on public transport or in shops.” (link https://covid19.govt.nz/health-and-wellbeing/masks/) Northlands Shopping Centre has confirmed in the post below that they will be open, with further updates on safety measures to follow:

Christchurch community campaigner on the road to recovery after near-fatal illness

 

It’s good to see that Papanui local (and former chair of the Shirley-Papanui Community Board) Yvonne Palmer is recovering from illness. Earlier this month she received the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to seniors and the community, and she is vowing to continue her community work. Click through to read more:
