Survey open on Council amalgamation options

A public survey is open until Sunday 26 July 2026, for feedback on options for the reorganisation of Canterbury councils. This follows the Government’s request for proposals for local government amalgamation.

Christchurch City Council will meet on 4 August to consider what approach to take regarding a proposal, which must be submitted to Government by 9 August.

Possible options range from a unitary authority on Christchurch’s existing boundaries, through to an ‘all of Canterbury’ single authority. Click through for information on the options and a link to the survey, or for more detailed background information click through to this page.
