[Updated 11 May PM: the road has reopened]
The Western Belfast Bypass was closed Tuesday afternoon due to a serious crash. This will likely mean increased traffic through the Papanui/Redwood/Belfast area – take care & be alert for changed traffic conditions. Follow Transport for Christchurch for updates.

A serious crash has closed SH1 at the end of the Western Belfast Bypass northbound at the merge point with the Northern Motorway. Road users are being diverted by emergency services. Delays should be expected north of Christchurch until this has been resolved. ^SM“
