Community engagement in the Papanui Ward in Christchurch, New Zealand
The Wheels to Wings drop-in session planned for this Thursday has been postponed until next week, and the consultation period has been extended through to 15 March. The final drop-in session is now set down for 11am to 3pm on Thursday 11 March at the Bishopdale YMCA. This session will go ahead if we are still in Alert Level 2.

The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will meet this Friday 5 March at 9am in the Papanui boardroom. There’s only small number of items on the agenda, which includes: a report back from a young person supported by a grant from the Board; a proposed road name for a development in Bridgend; and minutes from the previous Board meeting and Submissions Committee meeting. With the move to Alert Level 2 today a number of local events have been cancelled, postponed, or altered in format. Brass on the Grass at St Paul’s Papanui is not going ahead this afternoon. The Ōtautahi Together concert in the Botanic Gardens has changed to an online-only format. Ōtautahi Together concludes the commemorative programme to mark 10 years since the Christchurch earthquake. Soft plastic recycling has returned to Christchurch. This collection point is at The Warehouse in Northlands. Kilmarnock Enterprises will collect the soft plastics, and bale and palletise the materials for transport back to Auckland, where they will be processed into products including fence posts, veggie boxes, retaining walls and parking stops. At the 19 February meeting, the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board: received four public forum presentations; approved road names for a subdivision in Belfast; approved the three-month trial of bus priority lanes on Cranford Street; approved two grants from the Board’s Discretionary Response Fund; and received a staff report on issues and initiatives within the Board area. Thursday evening’s Wheels to Wings cycleway info session was held at the Chapel Street Centre. Council staff met with the public between 4:30pm and 6:30pm. A final information session is planned for Thursday 4 March from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Ōrauwhata: Bishopdale Community Centre. Submissions close on 8 March.
Duncan Webb Labour MP for Christchurch Central has arranged a meeting with Waka Kotahi NZTA for Redwood residents to discuss noise issues with the Christchurch Northern Corridor, and possible mitigations. The meeting is set for 7pm on Wednesday 3 March at St Silas Church. On 17 February, the submissions committee of the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board formulated submissions on the Council’s draft Christchurch Central City Parking Policy, and on the Wheels to Wings Major Cycleway.
