Cycleway drop-in information sessions this week
Cycleway drop-in reminder: today 20 September from 4:30pm to 6pm at the New Generation Church, cnr Aorangi & Clyde Roads, you can talk to the Council team about the proposal for stage 3 of Te Ara O-Rakipaoa Nor’west Arc Cycleway, which will connect Papanui to the University. Demolition underway on Harewood Rd townhouse site

Council consults on Community Strategy
The Council’s draft Ōtautahi Christchurch Community Strategy is an update to the Strengthening Communities Strategy that was launched in 2007.
The strategy has been refreshed, and in the Council’s words: “…is central to achieving our overall strategic priorities, with an emphasis on enabling active and connected communities to own their future. The Strategy works to achieve the community outcome of Resilient Communities, specifically:

- a strong sense of community
- active participation in civic life
- safe and healthy communities
- celebration of our identity through arts, culture, heritage, sports and recreation
- valuing the voices of all (including children).”

The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will meet this Friday at 9am. Due to COVID restrictions the boardroom will not be open to the public but the Board will livestream the meeting on their Facebook page, and members of the public requesting a public forum or deputation can join by Zoom. Nor’West Arc to extend to Papanui
Consultation has opened on Section 3 of the Nor’West Arc Cycleway, linking Canterbury University to Papanui via Jellie Park. From Papanui, the 4km route follows Matsons Avenue, Aorangi Road, and Ilam Road. The proposal is open for feedback until 12 October, and drop-in information sessions are planned for 20 and 23 September. Barnes Road lighting upgrade
Street lighting is being installed along Barnes Road between the railway line and Cavendish Rd. There’s a detour for westbound traffic in place at present – take care if you’re in the area.
Severe gales forecast for Christchurch and Banks Peninsula
Severe northwest gales gusting up to 140km/h are forecast to hit Christchurch and Banks Peninsula this evening. The strongest winds are likely to be overnight, and the Council is recommending you secure any outdoor items that have a risk of being blown away and to stay safe and be cautious when out and about.

Closing 5pm today: Summer With Your Neighbours
Reminder: applications for Summer with your Neighbours funding close at 5pm today Friday 10 September 2021. This is a Christchurch City Council initiative to bring people closer together and celebrate the unique and diverse mix of neighbourhoods. Funding is available to support local community gatherings such as street parties, a potluck meal, a neighbourhood sports day, etc. Click through for more information and a link to a funding application form.
