Access to the shared path along the CNC at Owen Mitchell Park has been completed – this is one of a number of connection points for pedestrians & cyclists along the route from Cranford St to the Waimakariri River.

Grassmere Street closed from Tuesday 6 April
The top end of Grassmere Street, from Main North Road to 50 Grassmere, will be closed from Tuesday 6 April through to early June for wastewater renewal works. Click through to the works notice for more information:

Friday wheelie bin collection shifts to Saturday this week
Wheelie bins that would normally be emptied on a Friday will instead be collected this Saturday 3 April due to the Good Friday public holiday. Monday collections continue as normal.
“It’s almost the long weekend! ? This means our bin collections on Good Friday 2 April will be collected on Saturday 3 April. Collections on Monday 5 April will be collected as normal. Have a great Easter!”
Rutland Reserve shared path being sealed
The shared path through Rutland Reserve linking the Papanui Parallel cycleway to the new CNC shared path is being sealed, As if this week the work was partially complete and the path closed mid-day due to the works. Once done, from this point it will be possible to walk or cycle all the way to Kaiapoi.
CNC project update: news on noise and finishing touches
The latest project update from the CNC Alliance contains information on noise effects of the motorway and possible mitigations. All the noise mitigations required for the project are now in place, with the exception of the final asphalt layer on the road. Work to apply this on the motorway and QEII Drive will begin in Spring 2021, and is due to be finished in early 2022. Click through to read the full update:

‘CNC noise’ public meeting 7pm Wednesday
Duncan Webb, Labour MP for Christchurch Central, has arranged a meeting with Waka Kotahi NZTA for Redwood residents to discuss noise issues with the Christchurch Northern Corridor, and possible mitigations. The meeting is set for 7pm on Wednesday 31 March at St Silas Church, with doors open from 6:30pm. Think Papanui’s curator Simon Britten rounds up stories from the past week:
Top post of the week was the release last Saturday of the design for Marian College’s new site in the former Foodstuffs warehouse in the back of the Main North Road / Northcote Road intersection.
Consultation has opened on the Council’s representation review, with some changes proposed to the boundaries of Papanui Ward and to the makeup of the Community Board.
On Monday I was at the Papanui Library for a drop-in information session on the draft Long Term Plan and other consultations currently open. This morning I also attended a busy session at MacFarlane’s on the Park Café.
New Zealand owned women’s wear retailer Caroline Eve is on the move in Papanui, with a new store at the Winston Ave / Main North Rd corner set to open today.
I’ve posted a summary of outcomes of the 17 March meeting of the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board.
Watch out for local road closures, as work gets underway on replacement of wastewater systems on a number of streets in the Papanui area.

Wastewater work underway in Papanui
A number of sewers in the Papanui area are reaching the end of their economic life and need to be renewed. Work will start soon in Grassmere Street, Hoani Street, and Perry Street, and is already underway in Frank/Gambia Streets. 17 March Board meeting outcomes
At the 17 March meeting, the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board: received a presentation from the Just Dirt Trust; heard back from a young person supported by the Board’s Positive Youth Development Programme; received a presentation from a resident seeking the Board’s support for a rebuild of the Shirley Community Centre, and for assistance with events on the site; received items of correspondence including one supportive of medium density housing and one concerning the Sheldon Park netball courts and toilet facilities; and received an area report on issues and initiatives current within the Board area. The Board will next meet on 16 April.
