Community Board Open Forum: Fri 5 August

The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will hold a Community Open Forum this Friday 5 August at 9am in the Papanui boardroom. This is a session of up to 30 minutes in total where members of the public and community groups can speak directly to the Board on issues, activities, and projects relevant to the Papanui and Innes Wards. Members of the public can attend the forum in person or view the livestream on the Board’s YouTube or Facebook page.

New pedestrian crossing to serve Marian College

As a condition of Marian College’s resource consent, a new signalised pedestrian crossing will be constructed on Northcote Road to ensure safe access to the school. Other changes are also proposed for Lydia Street and Northcote Road in that area.

Officially opened: Braintree Wellness Centre

The Braintree Wellness Centre in Papanui was officially opened last night. Braintree is a one-stop shop for people living with the likes of dementia, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s, and includes: a gym for strength, balance and aerobic exercise; classes for brain function; and a café full of healthy treats and advice. The centre is located on Langdons Road next to Papanui Bush.

A Shopping District Battery Electric Truck Project will see battery electric trucks operating in the Papanui shopping district, with both Northlands and Northlink Shopping Centres involved, and to the Christchurch Airport shopping district.

(Now resolved) Lights out at QEII Dr / Main North Rd / Northcote Rd

[Update 8:45am: lights are working but traffic is heavy]

The traffic signals at QEII Drive / Main North Road / Northcote Road are on the blink this morning. Take care if you’re in the area and maybe avoid if you can.

SH74 MAIN NORTH RD/NORTHCOTE RD/QUEEN ELIZABETH II DR – SIGNALS FAULT – 7:50AM, TUE 26 JUL

Due to a fault, the traffic signals at the intersection of Main North Rd/Northcote Rd/QEII Dr are currently in flashing. Motorists are advised to slow down when approaching the intersection and apply the Give Way rule. ^JP

Organic bin collection delay – 22 July

Some organic bins may not be collected in parts of north-west Christchurch. Bins not emptied today will be collected on Saturday 23 July. Please leave your bin out for collection by 6am on Saturday.

We are also experiencing delays in our kerbside collection today. As a result, some organic bins may not be collected in parts of north-west Christchurch.
