Mayor Lianne Dalziel has responded to the Papanui-Innes Community Board’s concerns (first reported in September 2017) over the decrease of around $85,000 in Council funding for local community organisations. In this week’s Nor’West News Ms Dalziel is quoted as saying that the new process to allocate funding is an improvement over the previous ‘ad hoc’ system. At the extraordinary meeting on 1 December, the Papanui-Innes Community Board approved the landscape plan for the MacFarlane Park project. This clears the way for the Council to receive a building at no cost, to be used as a facility for the Shirley community. The report for the gifting of the facility to the Council will go to the Council meeting of 7 December 2017 for a final decision, and work is also underway to secure a resource consent for the project. The agenda includes: stopping/parking restrictions; bus shelters for sites on Grimseys and Harewood Roads; applications to the Discretionary Response Fund and Positive Youth Development Fund; and a report on congestion in Paparoa Street. Christchurch residents are being asked by the Council to reduce water consumption. “Our advice is to either water your garden before 6am or after 9pm and to use a trigger gun nozzle on your hose or a watering can so you only target the plants that really need it. To conserve water we are encouraging residents not to water their grass or their berms and to try and limit watering the garden to every second day.” Click through for more…

Highlights from last week’s board meeting – the Papanui-Innes Community Board accepted the gifting to Council of the building currently being used as the St Albans Transitional Community Centre (preferably to be relocated to MacFarlane Park). The board also: supported in principle native forest regeneration of the Papanui Bush in the Bridgestone Reserve area, and requested a feasibility study of the whole reserve; will write in support of Age Concern’s desire to reinstate the bus route through Grants Road to the city; and decided to hold an extraordinary meeting this Friday 1 Dec to progress the relocation of the gifted building to MacFarlane Park (see separate post). The next ordinary meeting of the Board is on Friday 8 December at 9am in the Papanui Boardroom.
