Early voting is underway in the general election. There are voting places open daily in the Papanui and Redwood area including at Northlands Shopping Centre. On election day, Saturday 14 October, all voting places will be open from 9am until the close of voting at 7pm. The long-awaited upgrade of the Greers/Langdons intersection is out for consultation. The proposal includes new traffic lights, signalised pedestrian crossings, turning lanes and cycle lanes on all approaches to the intersection. The proximity of Reynolds Ave to the intersection complicates the design, and options for left in / left out and making Reynolds a cul-de-sac are proffered.
Consultation closes on 31 October, after which the two affected Community Boards will make a recommendation to the Council.
This Sunday 8 October at 10am Trees for Canterbury are working in conjunction with Styx Living Laboratory to plant an additional 1,000 native plants to add to the 40,000 kahikatea trees that have been planted in the Cranford Basin wetland area. See the Facebook event for details.
The Council has already approved lower speed limits for much of the Papanui area, with some changes already implemented and others to follow later this year. Consultation is now open on a city-wide Safer Speed Plan, which proposes reductions on additional Papanui streets. Click through for more information, including the rationale for the reductions and maps showing what’s proposed. Consultation closes on 25 October.
