Community engagement in the Papanui Ward in Christchurch, New Zealand
Thursday evening’s Wheels to Wings cycleway info session was held at the Chapel Street Centre. Council staff met with the public between 4:30pm and 6:30pm. A final information session is planned for Thursday 4 March from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Ōrauwhata: Bishopdale Community Centre. Submissions close on 8 March.
Duncan Webb Labour MP for Christchurch Central has arranged a meeting with Waka Kotahi NZTA for Redwood residents to discuss noise issues with the Christchurch Northern Corridor, and possible mitigations. The meeting is set for 7pm on Wednesday 3 March at St Silas Church. On 17 February, the submissions committee of the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board formulated submissions on the Council’s draft Christchurch Central City Parking Policy, and on the Wheels to Wings Major Cycleway. Think Papanui was on site this morning for the unveiling and blessing of new storyboards installed along the CNC shared path. 11 signs between the Waimakariri Bridge and Cranford Street depict the history of the area and the importance of the environment along the route. The steel interpretation panels can be found at: Waimakariri River; Ōtukaikino Reserve; the Railway Line; Kā Putahi Creek Bridge; Belfast Road; Kā Putahi Creek diversion; Styx River; Prestons Road; Owen Mitchell Park; Cranford Basin; and Cranford Street. The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will meet this Friday 19 February at 9am in the Papanui boardroom. The agenda includes: proposed road names for a new development in Belfast; the layout, design, and operational hours for the bus priority lanes trial on Cranford Street; two applications to the Board’s Discretionary Response Fund; and an area report on initiatives and issues current within the Board area. The submissions committee of the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will meet on Wednesday 17 February at 10:15am in the Papanui boardroom. The committee will consider making submissions on behalf of the Board on: the Wheels to Wings Major Cycleway Project; the Draft Christchurch Central City Parking Policy; Managing Noise from the Canterbury Multi-Use Arena; and on the proposed amendments to the Christchurch District Plan policies and rules regarding significant indigenous vegetation in the coastal environment. Agenda of Papanui-Innes Community Board Submissions Committee – 17 February 2021
Consultation update: today’s Council meeting decided that the current consultation on the proposed Wheels to Wings cycleway will continue, with an additional information session to be held in Bishopdale. Staff will subsequently meet with key stakeholders along Harewood Road and produce options for the relevant Community Boards to consider in public workshops, prior to the commencement of the hearings process.
