The Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will meet this Friday 6 August at 9am in the Papanui boardroom. The agenda includes: a recommendation to grant $147,320 in Strengthening Communities funds to 30 community organisations, and to establish a Discretionary Response Fund and Youth Development Fund totalling $51,530; and a recommendation to grant $1,000 from the Discretionary Response Fund towards a Parenting Adventures event later this month. Wastewater renewal work in Sails Street is expected to be completed mid-August 2021. Adjacent works in Hoani Street are due to be completed in early September. Main North Road, Prestons Road, and also Belfast Road, will be impacted by detoured traffic due to a southbound closure on Marshland Road from midday on Thursday 29 July until 6am on Monday 2 August. The closure is for a concrete pour at the Marshland Road bridge over the Pūharakekenui / Styx River. See the post from Transport for Christchurch for more information:

HEADS UP: Marshland Rd – one-way system – from midday Thursday 29 July

From midday on Thursday 29 July, until 6 am Monday 2 August Marshland Rd will be closed to southbound traffic from Belfast Rd. Manual traffic control may also be required at times to assist with turn movements into Belfast Rd.

This is to enable the concrete pour for the new bridge deck and allow sufficient curing time to connect the old and new bridge structures together.

Contractors will be working with day and night shifts during this period to complete critical pavement works for the upcoming traffic diversion on the new section of the bridge, later this year. By doing these works during the lane closure will minimise further disruptions. Posted detours will be in place. ^JP

GenConnect is a volunteer inter-generational programme where high school students assist older adults by providing free technology help. At Papanui Library with Jack Haldane, Anish Kadariya and Lyss Cowie from Papanui High School who deliver GenConnect. Its an awesome initiative where they hang out at the library on Tuesday lunchtimes and people who need a hand with technology can stop by and get advice and assistance.

So if you need to work out your settings on facebook, want to set up an account on trademe, or desperately want to post a clip on TikTok, com on down. They will even help you make sure that you are on the best plan for your phone and the like.

Given the move away from storefront assistance by banks, insurers, power companies, and even phone providers this kind of assistance is really helpful – thanks guys!

The next public planting day at the Cranford Basin Kahikatea Forest is coming up on Saturday 31 July 2021, from 10am to 1pm. Conservation Volunteers New Zealand is working in conjunction with the Christchurch City Council to plant a forest of 40,000 kahikatea trees in the Cranford Basin wetland area to provide stormwater retention services as well as enhancing urban biodiversity. Consultation update: the Council received 1348 submissions on the Wheels to Wings – Papanui ki Waiwhetū Major Cycleway. Themes from the feedback include: improved safety for cyclists; a safe route for children to get to school; climate change; loss of parking; traffic congestion; and cost. All submissions are now available on the project’s ‘have your say’ page. The Council is now finalising details for community information days, a Community Board workshop, and hearings.

At the 16 July meeting, the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board: received information on the naming of Gulati Lane, and resolved to retain the existing name; received a report from staff covering initiatives and issues within the Board area; and requested staff advice regarding the placement of a plaque on the former St Albans Public Library site on Dover Street.
