Contractors are set to drill a new deep well this summer at Papanui’s Grassmere pump station as part of the ongoing work to secure the city’s water supply.
A new deep well is set to be drilled at Papanui’s Grassmere pump station, replacing a shallow well. This site supplies about 3% of the city’s water, and while the work is underway Grassmere’s water will be dosed with chlorine at 0.5mg/L. Council staff are also proposing water restrictions over summer to avoid bringing further unsecure wells back into service. The work to repair and resurface Cranford St between Innes Rd and the CNC roundabout has been rescheduled. From next Wednesday 30 October traffic will again be moved to the east side of the road so that the west side can be milled, repaired, and asphalted. In mid November the work will move to the other side of the road and then finally the centre of the road will be repaired and work on the central median will start. During this work there will be closures and turning restrictions on side streets, at least one bus stop will be shifted, and there will be a 30km/h speed limit in place.
