16 December Community Board meeting outcomes

On Friday 16 December, the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board:

  • heard from Citycare’s community partnership advisor;
  • heard from members of the public regarding car parking in Mary Street and the Briggs/Marshland/Lake Terrace intersection; received correspondence,
  • including regarding flooding on Francis Avenue, and requested some actions from staff regarding this;
  • approved safety changes at the Briggs/Marshland/Lake Terrace intersection;
  • approved no stopping restrictions on Bishop Street at Purchas Street;
  • approved funding for garden awards, youth events, community liaison activities, and a new Board initiate – a school civic award;
  • approved five applications to the Board’s Discretionary Response Fund;
  • approved governance arrangements, including a meeting schedule for the term;
  • and received a report from staff on initiatives and issues within the Board area.

Christmas tree display at St Paul’s

St Paul’s Anglican Church, Papanui is holding a Christmas tree display, with at least 12 trees on view inside the church. The church will be open between 12-2pm daily between now and Christmas for people to come and look free of charge. All groups using the facilities were invited to decorate a tree in a manner depicting their particular group.

Also, along with other churches in the area St Paul’s are gathering with St Albans Community Choir next Sunday 18 December at 5pm for Carols in the Graveyard – the trees will be on display in our church for an hour or two afterwards. All welcome.

Waipapa Community Board meeting agenda: Friday 16 December

The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board will meet this Friday 16 December at 9am in the Papanui boardroom. The agenda includes:

    • safety improvements at the Briggs/Marshland/Lake Terrace intersection;
    • proposed no stopping restrictions for Bishop Street at the Purchas Street intersection;
    • funding for Board projects;
    • six applications to the Board’s Discretionary Response Fund;
    • governance arrangements for the term, including the time and location of Board meetings, the establishment of a submissions working group, and the appointment of Board members to external organisations; and
    • an Area Report on initiatives and issues current within the Community Board area.

Charity fundraiser – Northlands gift wrapping

Christmas gift wrapping is back at Northlands from Monday 12 December – for a gold coin donation, get your gifts wrapped by our chosen community groups. Thank you for supporting St John Youth NZ, Heart Kids Canterbury, Pītau-Allenvale School Christchurch, and Papanui High School PTA, who get all of the proceeds from your donation.

In centre from Monday 12 December, we’re proud to be partnering with St John, Heart Kids, Allenvale School and Papanui High School PTA to wrap your gifts for a gold coin donation. All community groups will receive proceeds from the donations.

Theft prevention event at Mitre 10 MEGA Papanui – Sat 9 December

Mitre 10 MEGA Papanui have a safety initiative underway today from 10am to 2pm – see this post for details.

To help with the Safer Vehicles initiative we are teaming up with our local Police to spread awareness and education!

The Neighbourhood Policing Team will be on site at Papanui MEGA tomorrow from 10am – 2pm, providing prevention advice, demonstrating how to fit steering wheel locks and anti-theft license plate screws.

Steering Wheel locks will be on promotion for $35 down from $61.99!
And an added bonus, if you purchase a steering lock while at our event the Police will fit your car with anti-theft license plate screws for free!
