Recap: the week ended 15 November

Think Papanui’s curator Simon Britten rounds up stories from the past week:

Papanui Bush nov for email

There was a community weeding day at Papanui Bush on Tuesday – look out for this on the morning of the second Tuesday of each month.

On Tuesday evening I attended the Redwood Business & Residents’ Group meeting. If you live or work in the area, check out the Facebook page, or come along to the next meeting on 10 December.

I shared a summary of the minutes of the inaugural meeting of the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board.

By this time this recap is published, Friday’s kerbside wheelie bin collection will likely be complete. There was no change to the schedule despite the public holiday.

Free cycle skills sessions for adults are once again being run in our community.

Consultation is open on a proposed revamp of the Bishopdale skate park.

A proposal for Park & Ride and direct commuter busses from Waimakariri District to Christchurch is open for feedback.

The Christchurch App (which delivers Papanui news in partnership with Think Papanui) is the official app of the Agricultural Show.

Coming up:

Next Friday 22 November the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board will hold its first ordinary meeting of this term, at 9:15am in the Papanui boardroom. I’ll post a summary of the agenda once it’s published.

Feedback is always welcome on Think Papanui’s content, either on Facebook or Instagram, or directly to me.
With warm regards

Commuter busses from Waimakariri District?

Environment Canterbury and the Waimakariri District Council are seeking feedback on direct commuter busses between Rangiora/Kaiapoi and Christchurch, along with Park & Ride facilities for bus users. Depending on the level of support, these services could be available close to the time the Christchurch Northern Corridor opens. Follow the link for more information and a feedback form. (It looks like feedback is being sought from potential users of the service more than from Christchurch residents, so if you know people who live in the Waimakariri District, please pass this on). Consultation is open until 8 December.

A better way to commute for Waimakariri residents

What’s being considered? Direct commuter buses from Rangiora and Kaiapoi to central Christchurch are being considered for when the Northern Motorway extension opens mid-2020. The new carpool lanes, at the Tram Road on-ramp and on the Christchurch Northern Corridor, will allow direct buses to skip co…”

The Bishopdale skate park is one of the largest in Christchurch, but is nearing the end of its lifespan. The Christchurch City Council is proposing a revamp, with feedback due by Monday 9 December. There’ll be an opportunity to talk to Council staff about the plans at Celebrate Bishopdale and the Bishopdale Skate Jam (both happening on Sunday 24 November).
