Progress results for Papanui Ward: 12 October

Progress results show that Emma Norrish has been returned as a Community Board member in Papanui Ward, and will be joined by Think Papanui founder & curator Simon Britten. The current count shows Simon on 2,151 votes, 28 votes ahead of Nathan McCluskey. Preliminary results will be available tomorrow and final results after 18 October. Mike Davidson has been returned as Councillor for Papanui.

Recap: the week ended 11 October

Think Papanui’s curator Simon Britten rounds up stories from the past week:

Redwood Library reopened at the start of the week.

Top post of the week was news that from today (11 October) traffic on QEII Drive would be changed over to use the first part of the interchange with the Christchurch Northern Corridor.

On Thursday 10 October there was a Biketober event for children at Papanui Primary School.

On Saturday 12 October there’ll be an open day at St Paul’s Church in Papanui, with free cemetery tours at 11am and 12:30pm.

Voting papers for our local body elections need to be returned to Council libraries / service centres before noon on Saturday 12 October.

Coming up:

  • There will be community fun days at Mitre 10 Mega Papanui on October 12 & 13.
  • Keep an eye out for an election special report from Think Papanui this weekend once the preliminary results of the local body elections are announced.
  • From Monday 14 October there will be further traffic changes and speed restrictions on Cranford Street, as 4-laning of the road between the CNC roundabout and Innes Road gets underway.

Cranford Street traffic changes from 14 October

Cranford Street is being upgraded to four lanes between Innes Rd and the interchange with the Christchurch Northern Corridor (CNC). From Monday 14 October, traffic will be shifted to the east side of the road so that the west side can be milled, repaired, and resurfaced. There will be a 30km/h speed limit in place, and there will be closures and turning restrictions on the side roads in the area. For more information see the project update at:

Last days to get voting papers in

After a slow start, the participation rate in Christchurch’s local body elections is now around what it was at this stage in the 2016 election. There’s still time for you to have your say – voting papers can be dropped off at Council libraries and service centres through to 12pm this Saturday the 12th of October.
